The White House

Good morning, and welcome back to our regularly scheduled program.  Today, we will be making our journey in time to

SATURDAY, 15 JUNE 2019

The plan for the day was to visit the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Air & Space Museum.

Let's start our our day and our picture journey with an episode of, "What do 8 kids on a long car ride do?" We didn't have that long of a car ride to get from our campsite to the heart of our nation, but the kids did take some....... "interesting" pictures.  I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Our first stop of the day was going to be at the Lincoln Memorial.  While we were waiting for the transit bus to get to our stop, the kids discovered some modern art sculptures.  Selfie time!!

Jacen going in for the "rabbit ears."  Didn't quite make it there buddy.

Ah, there we go!!  Success!!

A selfie just isn't a selfie without a photo bomb.  This photo bomb is brought to you by Jacen.

With it being pre-Covid and our nation's capital, there were crowds of people all over the place!!  I've seen pictures of the Lincoln Memorial, I knew it was a big statue.  Pictures just don't do things justice because I was very surprised by how big it actually was.  That thing is HUGE!! Way, way way, bigger than I imagined it would be.  It was fun to see it in person.

That is no small building either!!

Jaina is doing a funny walk.

From the steps of the Lincoln Memorial

The National Mall is HUGE!!

From the Lincoln Memorial, we wandered around the National Mall a bit and took random pictures before venturing into the Air and Space Museum.

Meow-meow likes to copy his sister, Jaina.

Family photo time.

Lion Heart was by far our most selfie happy child!

Selfie time!

Playing on the lawn.  Despite the Capital Building looking close, from where we were, it was still a LONG distance away!!

More selfie time.

I enjoyed the fountains

Downtown D.C. daily shenanigans for D.C. people.

Wandering the National Mall

Really cool architecture.

And apparently we needed a picture of a duck in a pond.

The Air & Space Museum wasn't as cool as we thought it would be, but then I'm not an overly huge fan of wandering around museums.  The kids had fun though.

All of the pictures I took in the museum got lost.  I have plenty of pictures that the kids took, however a lot were blurry and the majority were weird pictures of some of the displays.  So, for your viewing pleasure, here is a sampling of pictures the kids took.  Enjoy!!

After lunch, it was time for our tour of the White House.  I had been looking forward to this, and it did not disappoint.

Selfie time with siblings who aren't paying attention.

There we go!!  Selfie with the White House

You know, with a group as big as ours, getting a photo where everyone is looking at the camera and not making some kind of face is hard. This is a decent photo of everyone, except Lion Heart is looking down and Meow-meow is looking off into the distance.

See, now everyone but Firecracker is looking good.  Too bad we caught her mid sentence.

Yay!! Everyone looks good, oh wait, Meow-meow is biting Tiger Lily's hand. sigh.  But hey, the White House in the background looks great!

And again, it is 100 percent bigger than I imagined it would be.

Lion Heart kept hoping he might catch a glimpse of Trump.  No such luck, but the gardens are beautiful.

Well take a look at that good looking crew.

They had some interesting bronze sculptures.

The rooms were very beautiful, elaborate, and austentatious.

I could totally get down with a theatre like this in my house.

A library in my house would be nice too.

The chandeliers were very beautiful

Guess where I am.

You can almost see me in the bottom right corner of the mirror.

The green room was lovely.

The blue room was my favorite.

Red-rum, Red-rum...oh, wrong movie.

Way, way, way....

too....

much red.  I could not live in a room with that much red.

Such ornate mirrors and frames

We have to have a selfie with Ronald Regan.

This poor lady in the bottom left corner of this picture.  She will be forever memorialized with that look on her face.

Group photo op under the seal of the United States.

Now that is a beautiful piano.

It was all very gorgeous and I was glad I got the chance to see it.

Now it is time to consult with the great journal entry

Today's date is: 15 June 2019
Today we visited: The White House.  The Lincoln Memorial.  The Air & Space Museum.
Today's weather: Cloudy and sunny.
Today I feel: Happy
What I saw today: The White House.  The Lincoln Memorial.  The Air & Space Museum.
My favorite part of the day: Getting to see the White House.
I liked: Having sunshine.
I did not like: All of the walking. (By the time we were done with the White House, I wasn't sure I would be able to take another step.  My hips, knees, ankles, and feet were VERY angry with me!!)
It was funny when: Richard made a gagging noise at Hillary Clinton's picture. (I had completely forgot about that.  It was really quite hilarious.  Especially since it was really crowded and he wasn't at all silent about it.)

As for June 2020, I'm afraid I don't have anymore pictures scheduled until the 24th of June.  We will end our trip back east on the 21st of June.  So, I'm going to be lame and end this post here.  Pretty much the same old, same old was going on in 2020...... You know, house construction, Covid restrictions, summer heat, cute pets, etc.

Ta-Ta-For-Now.  Join me tomorrow when we go to visit Arlington National Cemetery and the D.C. Temple.  Have a great day!!
