I'm leaving, on a car ride.....

♫♫♫♫ I woke up Sunday mornin' and looked upon the wall.  The bedbugs and the roaches were havin' a game of ball.  The score was six to nuthin, the bedbugs were ahead, I got so durned excited, I fell right out of bed!!  Went downstairs for breakfast and everything was stale.  The cocoa tasted like tobacco juice right out of the county jail!!  Indian rubber beef steak and insulated cheese, a weenie took a flip flop and landed in the peas..............♫♫♫♫ Knocked the peas over, made a mess, now you gotta clean it up"

Good morning, and welcome to......

SUNDAY, 9 JUNE 2019

We had an absolutely FABULOUS time in Nauvoo, but it was now time to pack up and head out to our next destination......Indiana.  Nathan's youngest sister was living in Indiana at the time, so it made a great stopping point between Nauvoo and our next destination of Kirtland, Ohio.

The first thing we did on this particular Sunday morning, before we hit the road was to go to church in Nauvoo.  The kids took PLENTY of  "driving to church" selfies.

Now, here in Utah, my hair is generally bone straight.  I do actually have some natural curls.  They only come out right after I've showered, and unless I put a lot of crap in my hair, it dries straight as a board.  But in the humidity, it actually gets pretty curly.

It rained like a banshee for most of our drive to Indiana.....

I have NEVER seen so much rain in my entire life!!!

We drove past the Indianapolis, Indiana temple.  It was way too rainy to stop and take good pictures.  So, all we have are pictures from the D.S.S.V

We stopped for the evening and had a great visit with Jenni and Matt.  Then made our way over to the KOA we were going to stay at for the night.  It had rained so much that more than half of the KOA was flooded.  Luckily the spot we parked at was high enough that we didn't drown, but if you had to be careful where you stepped, otherwise you were up past your ankles in water.

Let us now go and see what my journal entry for the day was........

Today's date is: 9 June 2019
Today we visited: Nauvoo 3rd ward.  Scenery as we made our way to Indianapolis.
Today's weather: Rainy and sunny.
Today I feel: Happy
What I saw today: Lots of fields and trees.
My favorite part of the day: When we got to Matt and Jenni's
I liked: The scenery.
I did not like: The rain when we were trying to set up camp and go to bed.
It was funny when: Jacen was being silly.  He and Lion Heart were sharing a bed.  At some point in the night, Lion Heart's hair brushed up against Jacen.  In his sleepy state, Jacen thought it was Anubis (the cat) and so he started petting Lion Heart's head.  Then he woke up enough to realize he wasn't home and that it was Lion Heart and not Anubis.  Lion Heart asked him why he was petting his head.  We all got a really good laugh when they told us the story. (I had completely forgot about that!!  It was really hilarious)

With not much happening on the 9th, I've decided to do two days in this blog post.  So, come and join me as we wake up on a very rainy, muddy, and flooded summer day in Indianapolis, Indiana.

MONDAY, 10 JUNE 2019
We got up early because we had a fairly long car ride ahead of us in order to reach our destination of Kirtland, Ohio.

Consulting with my journal, the plan for Kirtland was to see:
Historic Kirtland Visitor's Center (We did not do that one)
Kirtland Temple (We did this one)
John Johnson Home (It was way too rainy to do this one)

That looks so very uncomfortable.

Eating breakfast and getting ready to leave.

We hadn't even left the campsite when the kids started taking D.S.S.V. car ride shenanigan selfies.

Bye by campground.

It's been a while since we have had an episode of, "What do 8 kids on a long car ride do?"  Well, here's what they do.

Play on electronics

Take photos of the rainy scenery.

Read Kindle and take weird pictures out of the window.

And apparently take pictures of all the rain on the window.

When we arrived in Kirtland, it was raining really hard.

The Community of Christ owns and operates the Kirtland Temple.  It was a complete downpour when we pulled into the parking lot and went into their Visitor's Center.  They had us watch their video on their "take" on how the church got started.  By the time we finished the video, we had a tender mercy and the rain had stopped and we were able to have a lovely tour of the temple and even got some photos out in front of it.

This is what it looks like to get our family all set up just to take a photo

We can see Jacen in this one, but Lion Heart is blocking Maddie.

We can see Maddie in this one, but not Jacen.  Sigh!

The rain picked up again pretty much as soon as we had got into the D.S.S.V.  We decided that we just didn't want to go see or do anything else in the rain, so we just went back to our campsite and settled in for the night.

Alright then, what did I have to say in my journal?

Interesting things I have learned: The Kirtland temple was different than I expected it to be.  It is nothing like the temples we have today.
Thoughts and impressions I have had: We were in a place where many great revelations were mad.  Jesus visited Joseph in the Kirtland temple.  Joseph saw a vision of heaven in the temple.  The significance and history of this temple is amazing.
What was my favorite part? Why? Seeing the spot where Jesus visited.  The thought of me standing in a place where the Savior stood was amazing.
How has this helped my testimony grow? Seeing these things with my own eyes.  Feeling the differences in the spirit.

And

Today's date is: 10 June 2019
Today we visited: The Kirtland temple
Today's weather: Rainy
Today I feel: Meh
What I saw today: Rain, rain, rain and more rain.  The Kirtland temple.
My favorite part of the day: Seeing the temple.
I liked: Learning about the history of the temple.
I did not like: The rain that lasted ALL DAY LONG!!!
It was funny when: We got stuck in the mud.  (I had completely forgot about this as well.  When we first got into Kirtland, we went to our campsite to unhook the trailer before we made our way over to see the temple.  Our campsite was about a half hour drive away from the temple.  It was raining so hard that we had a hard time seeing out of the windows and mirrors of the D.S.S.V. to be able to do a decent back up job for the trailer, and the ground was terribly muddy.  You know, recipe for disaster..  There was not a lot of wiggle room on the RV pad, not to mention the spot they put us in was not an easy one to get into even on good conditions.  So, we were doing the best we could with what we had.......and ended up getting the trailer stuck in the mud.  It took us a bit to get the silly thing out of the mud and securely onto the RV pad.  So, by the time we were able to head out sight seeing, it was getting pretty late, which is another reason why we opted for not doing more sight seeing...Silly rain!! It's one of those situations where it wasn't funny at the time, but afterwards, quite hilarious.)

Alrighty then, Hop on board our time machine and we shall jump ahead one year and investigate.

9 & 10 JUNE 2020
I was probably doing some form of construction

The kids were probably jumping on the trampoline

The kitten-kattens were definitely being cute.

Well, there you have it.  Come join me again tomorrow when we visit Niagra Falls.  And I promise that I will have actual pictures from 2020 this time.
