Good morning!! I hope you are all ready to get wet!! Today we make our journey to Niagara Falls and take a ride on the Maid of the Mist.
And with that, welcome to.....
TUESDAY, 11 JUNE 2019
We start off our morning in Kirtland, Ohio.....
Sound asleep.... |
Too bad though...... |
Because they are about to get woke up. |
You can see the muddy tracks where we got stuck the day before. |
Getting the D.S.S.V. ready to hook on the trailer. I need to come up with a good name for the trailer. Hmmm, how about the "Travel Wagon?" I'll think about it. |
It took the better part of the day getting to Niagara Falls, and so I bring you the next episode of "What do 8 kids on a long car ride do?"
They take weird pictures, that's what they do!! A lot of the pictures that the kids took will be interspersed throughout this blog post, I find them to be quite entertaining.
You could both see the mist and hear the roar of the falls from quite a distance.
Trying to navigate our big beasts through the maze of small roads around Niagara Falls was interesting. So, while we drove around, trying to figure out where we were supposed to go park our oversized load, the kids were all in the Travel Wagon, working on getting lunch stuff together. I'm guessing they tried to get a shot of the river as we drove over it. |
Diligently trying to figure out where to go. |
I also got a shot of the river as we drove over it. But I had the advantage of being in the front seat of the D.S.S.V. |
I guess getting lunch together? |
We eventually found where we were supposed to park and eventually ate some lunch, before eventually heading off to see the falls.
View of the falls from where we parked. We stayed on the U.S. side of the falls and didn't venture over into Canada. |
I believe it is a requirement to take silly pictures. |
They certainly are an impressive sight to see!! |
♫♫ oh, Canada! ♫♫ |
We had to go down a tall elevator to get to the Maid of the Mist. |
The Cliffs of Insanity!! Oh, wait, I think it's another one of the kids pictures. |
Here's the part of our journey where we get wet. So, get your rain poncho on and come aboard the Maid of the Mist.
Thanks to Lion Heart, |
We got some shots of us putting on our complimentary ponchos and waiting in line to get on the Maid of the Mist. |
That's the tall elevator we came down. |
That's the border between the U.S. and Canada. |
Here we go!! |
The Canada side of things. |
And the Canada boat tour. We all waved to each other. |
The first set of falls. |
It's a bird!! It's a plane!! It's Super........ oh, wait, it's just a bird. Darn it I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Superman. I guess I should have just jumped into the river or something. Oh well. |
Here we go, into the falls. |
It was awesome. We also got really wet, even though we had the ponchos. |
Leaving the falls. |
A bunch of drowned rats. |
And for the final segment of our Niagara Falls part of the trip, I give you before and after.
Before going into the falls.... |
After going into the falls. |
Before going into the falls. |
After going into the falls. Not even the hood helped keep you from getting drenched. |
We had a lot of fun at Niagara Falls, but we also had several hours more in the D.S.S.V. to reach our destination of Palmyra, New York. So, with that, we took off. The plan had been to get into Palmyra, drop off the Travel Wagon, change into Sunday clothes, and then go do some baptisms at the Palmyra temple. But, we ended up spending more time than we had originally planned at Niagara. So, by the time we got into Palmyra and set up camp, it was time to eat dinner and settle in for the evening.
This pizza joint came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. |
The last batch of pictures I have are ones that the kids took of our campground. Apparently it had a mini golf course with some weird statues.
I don't ask questions. |
Well, alrighty then. |
He looks like an angry mouse. |
Now that is just plain creepy. |
It doesn't look like this mini golf course gets used much. |
That's where we are. |
Some random statue they saw while driving around Palmyra. |
They had a bonfire out by the bathrooms. The bathrooms were quite a distance away from us. It rained, a lot, so we'd hop in the D.S.S.V. and drive down to the bathrooms whenever we needed to go down that way. |
Monkeying around the bonfire. |
Night time selfies. |
It is now time to consult the great and mighty journal entries.
Today's date is: 11 June 2019
Today we visited: Niagara Falls
Today's weather: Sunny
Today I feel: Happy
What I saw today: Niagara Falls
My favorite part of the day: Getting wet on the Maid of the Mist
I liked: Seeing the falls.
I did not like: All the crowds of people. (There were throngs of people everywhere!! Ah, the good old pre-covid days)
It was funny when: My lens cap rolled away & fell into the river. (ha ha, I'd forgot about that. I had this zoom lens that I could attach to my cell phone. I was attempting to use it for the first time. Well, the lens cap popped off and rolled ceremoniously across the platform and right smack dab into the river. The kids all had a good laugh over it.)
Now, I promised you that I would have pictures from 2020, real pictures this time. And so I do.
11 JUNE 2020
He was such an adorable little puppy.
And that is all of the photos I have for this day. But hey, at least you get a cuteness overload. More than likely I spent the day doing house construction and the kids did kid things.
Tomorrow we will visit the sites around Palmyra. I will see you then!!
