Good morning, and welcome back. I hope you are all recovered from yesterday's shenanigans and ready for what is in store for today.
We left off yesterday with yet another rainstorm that left us all feeling like drowned rats. We all sat down, squished together in the Travel Wagon and talked about our options. We had planned for one more full day in Washington, D.C., but we all felt that we had seen all we wanted to and really had no interest in going back for more. We all came to the consensus that, as Obi Wan Kenobi would say, "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy," and we were all quite okay with ending our trip one day early. So, we made some re-arrangements to our plans and packed up for the long trip home.
We had heard rumor that the Air and Space Museum and Dulles National Airport was much better than the one at the National Mall, and it housed the Space Shuttle, Discovery. We woke up bright and early on the morning of the 18th with the plan to drive out to Dulles, see the museum, and then hit the road towards Cleveland, Ohio where we would spend the night.
So, without any further ado, I bring you......

Dulles National Airport Air & Space Museum
I have never been that close and personal with a space shuttle before. That thing is ENORMOUS!!
|
Either Nathan or one of the kids getting a picture of me, getting a picture of the shuttle |
|
My picture of the shuttle |
|
The thing was so huge that it was next to impossible to get a good shot with all of us and all of the shuttle. |
|
Fine looking crew. |
|
Would you look at the size of those rockets!!! |
|
Almost got the whole thing in the photo. |
|
I think the kids took this picture. |
|
I was quite proud of this picture I took. |
|
Just massive. |
|
Nathan is not a small man, he's quite the giant, as a matter of fact, but even he was dwarfed by the sheer size of it. |
|
So sad, I wouldn't let him bring it home. |
There were all sorts of planes to see.
What did the kids take pictures of, you ask? Well, let's open another episode of "What did the kids take pictures of now?"
|
I so want this mailbox!! |
|
This was pretty neat to see. |
|
It wouldn't be a proper blog post without selfies from this guy. |
They have an elevator that will take you up to an observation area where you can watch airplanes taking off and landing at Dulles. So, we figured that while we were there, we'd go up and take a look around. (I wouldn't let them say no, because I love to watch airplanes take off and land.) The elevator had windows so you could look out on the surrounding area......mainly the parking lot. We discovered something quite hilarious............
|
One of these things is not like the others. |
|
Let's zoom in for a closer look. What's wrong with this picture? |
|
Man alive!! We stick out like a sore thumb!! That's it, I have to give it a name. The van was named the D.S.S.V. and I named the trailer the Travel Wagon. Combined together I think I shall refer to it as the Oversized Load. |
All in all, it was a most excellent vacation. We ate lunch at the McDonald's there in the museum, then braced ourselves for a LONG, LONG, LONG, LONG drive home that would take three and a half days.
And for the grand finale....... selfies in the car!!
All we have left to do now is to consult with the almighty and powerful journal entry......
Today's date is: 18 June 2019
Today we visited: Air & Space Museum at Dulles Airport. Drive to Cleveland, Ohio.
Today's weather: Rainy.
Today I feel: Happy and bored.
What I saw today: Air & Space Museum
My favorite part of the day: Seeing the Space Shuttle, Discovery.
I liked: All the airplanes.
I did not like: The rain and the long drive.
It was funny when: I didn't write anything here. I guess nothing funny happened that day. Looking back though, I would have to say it was funny when we saw just how much our Oversized Load was poking out at both ends of the parking space.
As for 18 June 2020?
Same old, same old.
Well, that's all I have for today. Tomorrow I will wrap up with both June 2019 and 2020. I don't have a ton of pictures from the rest of the drive home and I've dragged June on long enough. So, it's high time I wrapped it up so we can move onto the rest of the year. So, I will see you back again tomorrow.
