Hello, good morning, and welcome do a cold, blustery winter day. It's a perfect day to take a trip back in time to a warm, sunny summer day in Nauvoo, Illinois.
According to my journal, we were going to tour the Historic Nauvoo Visitor's Center........
Nauvoo, Illinois, Day 1...
THURSDAY, 6 JUNE 2019
We started out our day at the Visitor's Center. It was crazy busy there as it is a hot destination spot for youth conferences. There is a lot to do and see in Nauvoo, including....
We had fun on this one. |
This was a lot of fun as well. |
We didn't have enough time for this one though. |
We got our tickets for the wagon ride, and naturally had to get a photo with the horses.
We met these horses along our way. |
The wagon ride was fun and I got some good shots of everyone, plus some scenery shots just for fun.
After our wagon ride, it was a "requirement" that we take hundreds of pictures of the horses. I think I narrowed it down to a handful of my favorites. These horses were massive and beautiful....beautifully massive.....see for yourself.
Apparently confused about something. |
Good looking crew. |
After the temple, and laundry, it was back to more sight seeing and a carriage ride this time. It was fun and it took us through the town.
That evening we went to the Outdoor stage "sunset" pre-show & children's parade and the Sunset by the Mississippi at the Outdoor stage. Those were really awesome shows. They let all the kids go up on stage and dance around. They all had a really good time.
Our campsite was lovely and wooded. There was a trail right by our site that lead to this little pond. The kids had fun and got some pictures to preserve for a memory.
We needed to do a shopping trip, "shockingly" none of the kids wanted to go on a car ride back over the Mississippi, so Nathan and I had a nice date night........going grocery shopping. I tried to get a good picture of the Mississippi, but this is all I got.
All in all, it was a really fun day with lots of grand adventures and experiences that we will never forget. And, it was an incident free day.Well, lets go on over to my journal pages and see what I wrote for the day.
Interesting things I have learned: I learned that Joseph and Hyrum are buried in Nauvoo. I learned about making bread, candles, rugs, rope, and barrels. I learned how the pioneers lived.
What was my favorite part? Why? The sunset on the Mississippi show. The music was fun. Heavenly Father wants us to work but also to have fun and joy.
And, the funny journal page:
Today's date is: 6 June 2019
Today we visited: Nauvoo
Today's weather: Sun, rain, thunder, and lightning.
Today I feel: Happy
What I saw today: Old Nauvoo
My favorite part of the day: The Sunset on the Mississippi Show
I liked: The carriage ride and the wagon ride.
I did not like: The bugs and humidity (If it wasn't for the bugs and the humidity, I could happily live in Nauvoo. The mosquitos weren't too bad, it was the flies. They were AWFUL!! But the humidity did bring out the little bit of natural curls I have, so it does have that going for it!)
It was funny when: They sang the "Bug Spray" song at the Sunset on the Mississippi Show.
And that is how day one in Nauvoo went down. Come on board our time machine and let's head forward to.......
6 JUNE 2020
Today we will be discussing what the Davis family was up to on thi............................................
WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT OVER THERE?!?!?!?!?!?
Wow, that was weird. I've never seen a flying elephant before.
Anyway, that is a wrap for today. Come again tomorrow for day 2 in Nauvoo!!
