OCTOBER 2013
By October, I have resigned myself to the fact that summer is gone, fall is here, and winter will be here before we know it. I’m ready to cheer up, get over it, suck it up, and get festive. I find myself getting excited for the holiday season and ready to enjoy what it offers. It still feels strange that another year has blown by so quickly.
Once October 1st hits, I am ready to break out the Halloween decorations and think about buying Halloween candy and costumes. I flat out REFUSE to purchase any of this stuff before October 1st. I get that retailers and craft stores want to sell, sell, sell, but it seems that they start pushing the holidays on us sooner and sooner. There is nothing I hate more in this world than to see Halloween decorations in the stores in September. In September I'm trying to enjoy what's left of the warm weather, I don't like being reminded that it's all going to come crashing to an end. But my feelings towards Halloween change when the calendar clicks over to October 1st. Don't ask me why that is because I'm not really sure why on September 30 I hate anything remotely connected to fall and/or Halloween but come October 1st I love it.
There are two holidays in October, Columbus Day and Halloween.
Columbus Day ranks in at #19. The kids don't even get this day off of school. However, October does have the fall break which means a four day weekend. That's not too bad. Here in Utah, it's called U.E.A (Utah Education Association). I like fall break.
Then we have Halloween. Halloween ranks in at #11. Don't get me wrong, Halloween is fun and all but it's just not an overall favorite holiday. I like Halloween because of the fun parties, the costumes, the candy, and the trick-or-treating. But I don't really care for the Orange and Black colors of Halloween. I don't like that it's so cold out when you go trick-or-treating that you can't really enjoy the costumes because they are covered up by coats. The one thing I really do like about Halloween is that it is the starter holiday to the holiday season.
What happened in October 2013?
October 4th we had our first dusting of snow!! I cried!! And I mean literally cried!! After that, the weather warmed up again and the rest of October was quite pleasant.
Little Red June Bug rocked this Robin Hood hat.
He also had his first tastes of solid food.
And turned four months old.
And is cute as a button. Why do we even say that? How did that even evolve into a saying?
Spider Monkey and Lion Heart had a box car derby. It was an absolute riot. They arranged the chairs at the church to make a race track. Each boy had to run three laps, stopping of in the "pit" each time. The families were the "pit crew". Each boy wore sunglasses (windshield). When they came into the pit, we were supposed to spray their sunglasses with water and then dry them off (cleaning the windshield). Then we fed them half of a cookie and gave them a sip of water through a straw (gassing up). Then we were to take off their shoes and put them back on (changing tires). It was an absolute blast. Everyone had a lot of fun.
The kids painted their pumpkins. My dad grew these pumpkins in his garden. Not only were they huge but they were heavy. We decided that painting them would be the best option. The kids had a lot of fun painting their pumpkins. Although, I think they got more paint on themselves than they did on the pumpkins.
We went to the Dinosaur Museum.
We also had fun climbing a rock wall and playing Laser Tag at Trafalga.
And lots of Halloween fun.
Even Popcorn had some fun in a box.
