April 2013

APRIL 2013
April is my fifth favorite month of the year.  I love April for the freshness that it brings to life.  The world is waking up from the dead of winter.  The days get longer, the weather gets warmer.  The sunshine is warm on your face.  Everything is bright and new.  It always cheers my heart to see the flowers poking their heads out of the ground, to see the trees in bloom, and to see the grass turning green again.

April 1st, while not considered a "holiday" is a celebrated day.  I always figured that the reason for April Fools day stemmed back to when the Gregorian calendar took over from the Julian calendar.  I did some poking around on the internets and found out that it is only one of the theories.  For a good read go check out this web site: http://www.snopes.com/holidays/aprilfools/origins.asp
Either way, I love the idea of having New Years start on April 1st.  It would make for a much brighter and happier New Year.  The whole idea of New Years is a beginning, a fresh start, a whole new year for goals and adventures.  What better way would that be than to celebrate new beginnings in spring when the whole world is fresh, new and coming to life after the dark, dead of winter?  But, alas, I don't see my idea being adopted anytime soon.  I've played pranks before and it can be fun, however, I've seen pranks that get too mean and nasty.  I've come to celebrate April 1st as a day of happiness because it's finally April.

With April comes Easter and Easter ranks at #3 in my holiday line up. Sometimes Easter comes in March, and it's okay but just not the same as when it comes in April.  I love Easter for many reasons.  First and foremost is because we remember that Jesus Christ died for us.  We remember that he atoned for our sins and made it possible to not only be resurrected but that he took upon himself all of our pains, afflictions, sufferings, and sins.  He died to save us.  He rose from the grave and brought new hope and life.  And April is all about the world awakening from the slumber of winter.  The connection between the life that Spring brings and what Jesus did moves me deeply.  I love Easter because everything about it is bright and happy.  The Easter colors are happy and fresh.   And quite frankly, the Easter colors are so Type 1.  I know Type 1's can wear darker colors with tints in them like chocolate brown and Navy blue.  But I really don't like any dark colors.  I do own some chocolate brown colors, but for the most part I love anything pastel.  My entire wardrobe looks like and Easter egg and I LOVE IT!!  I love wearing the bright happy colors during winter.  I love Easter because it's cute, and I'm cute, and I love all things cute!!  Easter is for painting eggs and going on Easter egg hunts.  Easter is joy.

So, what did April 2013 hold for our family?

Spider Monkey and Tiger Lily being silly in a tree.

Adventures at the Dinosaur Park in Ogden.  They were pretending that they were attacked by dinosaurs.

And me being pregnant.
